“Chinese Medicine – Spirit of the Points”
This rich and colorful weekend workshop brings life to the heart of Chinese Medicine. Alexander M. Love draws upon the innovative understanding of master five-element acupuncturists/herbalist Thea Elijah, the deep classical understanding of Dr. Jeffery Yuen, and his own clinical experience and integration. Class time will be comprised of lecture with energetic transmission as well as some hands on practice if time allows. Either way, the emphasis is on experiential vs. didactic learning. This workshop is worth 19 PDA points through the NCCAOM.

In this class you will learn:
Source Points: What is the source of each of the Five Elements? What are the five transformations of virtue? How does understanding the source of each element better allow us to know our patients deeply and help them to draw out the health within themselves? We will explore the core essence of each of the five elements which will take your Five Element diagnosis to a whole new level. By knowing the essence of each element and the transformation of virtue, many disparate elemental parts come together as a unified whole. We will explore Chinese numerology 1-5, overview of Wei, Ying, Yuan layers, command point function as a whole and deeper significance of point usage as energetic living depositories of virtue and accumulation. Additionally, we will explore the mental/emotional expression of the zang/fu, core elemental transformations of virtue e.g. fear into wisdom, anger into visionary creativity, and the spirit of each source point on the primary channels.
Conception Vessel and Governor Vessel: What do Ren and Du Mai have to do with the different stages of individual and cultural evolution? How does our body show an exact picture of human evolution of consciousness and what impact does our understanding of cultural evolution and spiral dynamics have on our understanding of Ren & Du Mai acupuncture points? We will explore an overview of the 8 extraordinary meridians which will provide a context to dive deeply into the spirit of selected Ren and Du Mai points. We will look at the points as Ren/Du pairs as well as a progression of human evolution of consciousness through the lenses of spiral dynamics and the three taoist treasures – Jing, Qi, & Shen.
Windows to the Sky: What do the windows to the sky points have to do with being uniquely human? What is their role in sensory perception and our capacity to see the world without projection and denial? What do they have to do with tolerance and the next cultural wave emerging at this time? We will explore the role of Windows to the Sky points in creating lasting change by engendering release from habituation and fixed perspectives. Intrinsic within any profound healing modal are ways to assist us to make radical changes in our lives. Windows to the Sky are powerful points to open up places where we have been unwilling to see clearly, release fixed attitudes and provoke a deeper connection with what it means to be uniquely human.
Upper Kidney Points: What is the difference between Chinese characters Ling and Shen, both of which are translated as ‘Spirit’? What do the upper kidney points have to do with the Ling spirit and what do they teach us about the depth of practitionership and deep listening? What is the significance of these ‘front shu points’ and how do they assist us with the major conflict of human consciousness? We will explore the characters for Ling and Shen as well as explore the characters for each point to uncover the deeper meaning of these points. The upper kidney point set a beautiful stage for developing the capacity to see our patients more deeply and cultivate Tong Shen Ming; to look and perceive directly, which is considered the highest form of diagnosis in the classics.
We will take an amazing journey through the human organism from a Chinese Medicine perspective. We begin with an overview of the physical and non physical layers of Wei, Ying, and Yuan to help us understand the specific depth and quality of what Yuan Source points access. Next, we explore Chinese numerology numbers 1 through 5 and how these numerological energetics open for us the virtues inherent within the five element constitutional types. We will enter into the Five-Elements one by one, as we explore their transformation from pathology to virtue. From here we explore each of the source points and their mental/emotional/physical function. This exploration will offer us a deep connection to the essence of each element allowing us to better observe nature speaking through our patients.
Next, we explore the major stages of human evolution as they are expressed through the spirit of selected acupuncture points along Conception and Governor vessel. We will explore what these vessels teach us about the developmental stages of leadership & governorship, bonding & satiation. We will look at these points both in relationship to individual human evolution as well as their cultural evolutionary counterparts. In this discussion, we will learn how the points along CV and GV are further illuminated by the Vedic chakra system and Spiral Dynamics. This journey through developmental stages of consciousness will finish with an in depth discussion of the Windows to the Sky points as the stage of development unique to the human race and its capacity for self-reflection.
We conclude our journey with an exploration of upper kidney point 23-27 and delve into the deep listen of the ling spirit. This will draw us into the conversation of practitionership and Tong Shen Ming or ‘direct illumination’, or ‘to look and know’ which is considered to be the highest form of diagnosis and treatment in the Chinese classics. Please join us on this great journey as we explore the spirit of Chinese medicine, 5 element constitutional types, and the essence of human evolution. What you learn here, if embodied, will take your practice to a great new level of depth and clarity.
